Battle of the gods - Acts 17

How do we Christians know that there is only one God?  Why couldn’t there be a multiverse of multiple gods?  And how do we know that we are worshipping the right God?  It’s a tragedy that there would be anyone in the world today who does not know enough about God to know him.  Everyone should know God.  The problem of our world today is that the popular ideas of God are as false and empty as a Pirate’s prosthesis.

God defined: Eternal, Limitless, Perfect, all Powerful.

With multiple gods some would have greater or less power.

A god cannot be a god if it has less power than God.

False gods are Multiplying 16

Athens surpassed everyone in religious passion.

The city was enamored with the gods.

They even erected one monument to an unknown god!

They were very religious, but they were very misled.

Paul became vexed with their idolatry.

The gods are at War 17-21

Paul reasoned with them daily.

They spent their days discussing religious thought and philosophy

Their philosophy blinded them

Epicureans thought that the gods were just like humans

Stoics thought that they are as good as God

They thought Paul was crazy

They brought Paul to their Council Meeting

They had never heard of the resurrection

Both Religion and Philosophy fall short of revealing God

The Triumph of God Almighty-22-31

He’s the Creator, therefore the Lord and King.  24

He is Self Sufficient, therefore manmade gods fall short.  25

He’s Sovereign, therefore all of us were made to seek Him.  26

He is the Living God, and We were created to know him.  28

He is the Righteous Judge, and we are accountable to him.  30

The God of the Bible is superior to all the gods.  There is no contest.  It is possible to worship God without knowing him.  It is possible to be religious and still fail to enter heaven.  And the way to know Him is through the resurrected Jesus Christ!  The past can be forgiven, and if not, The future awaits with judgment.  It is essential that we love and serve the one true living God!  Our eternity depends upon it
