God Became Flesh!

What is Christmas really all about for the Christian?  We all know it’s about the Birth of Jesus, not Santa, or gift giving, or festive lights, or family gatherings.  And we also know that Christmas is much deeper.  So what should the Christian contemplate at this time of year?  What really matters about His Birth.  How should that move us.  What should we really celebrate?

God Invaded History – John 1:1&14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God!

John 1:14 “The Word became ___________.”

Incarnation literally means that God took on flesh.

His name shall be Immanuel, which is translated, “_____ with us.”  Mat 1:22

Jesus taught His disciples that He was God.

He who has seen me has seen the Father.  Joh 14:8-9

Jesus is “the express image of His person.” Hebrews 1:1-3

The incarnation means that God visited planet earth.

God intervened in biology – Luke 1:30-37

And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”

This is what we call the ___________ birth.

Humanly speaking a virgin birth is impossible.

The virgin birth is one of the greatest miracles ever recorded.

There has only been one virgin birth in all of history.

Mary conceived Jesus by the ________ _______. Matt 1:20

The Holy Spirit created the miracle of life in the womb.  Luke 1:35

God slipped out of heaven and took on the form of frail human flesh.

The Virgin Birth explains how Christ could be both _______ and man.

If there is no Virgin Birth, then Jesus could not save us!

The virgin birth is not a myth; it is a miracle!

God Humbled in Humanity – Phil 2:5-8

Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

Jesus existed in the “_________” of God before His incarnation.

He shared every quality and attribute that the Father had.

Jesus was equal with God.

He never once considered it ____________ to become a man.

Jesus __________ Himself of the use of many of His Divine attributes.

He didn’t lose them, he simply shrouded his glory in human flesh.

In the Greek language this is known as the Kenosis of Christ.

The people of his day could not typically see his divine attributes.

Jesus emptied his entire divine nature into a little baby.

Jesus added His divine nature into a little human boy!

Jesus the man was running over with the fullness of the Divine Nature!

This is what we should meditate on at Christmas;  That God invaded history, intervened in biology, and humbled himself by becoming part of humanity.  This is what we celebrate.  In the greatest miracle of all time, the Almighty God became a humble servant, as it was the only way that mankind could be saved from their sin!
