John 6:16-39

Has God ever disappointed you?  For some of you, your expectations will be dashed on the rocks of reality.  What if the questions you have been asking have answers that you just don’t like?  God is certainly not going to change Himself to fit your expectations.  Either you are going to have to change your own beliefs about God or you will have to create an imaginary God who will be more pleasing to your tastes.  You are either going to have to make personal changes in order to follow Jesus, or you will dessert him. 

The crowds came seeking Jesus, hoping for another free meal. 

Jesus dashed their expectations.    

The spiritual condition of your soul is more important than your daily bread. 

The Purpose of Stilling the Storm

Matthew is the only one that includes Peter walking on water. 

Jesus was teaching them faith in Him over fear. 

Mark has Jesus calming the Disciples and then the storm. 

Jesus wanted them to know He has power over nature. 

John used this event as a test for the crowds who were seeking Him.

They were looking for a sign – they missed this one!

Q1 How did You get Here? 22-27

The question is, “when did you arrive?  How did you get here before us?” 

The purpose of “signs” is point out your need of Eternal Life. 

Q2 What Work should we Do? 28-29

Jesus answered a works question with a faith answer. 

Faith alone is the only thing powerful enough to save. “Sole Fide!” 

“Not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done.” Titus 3:5

“To him who does not work but believes.” Romans 4:5

Good works is the cart that follows the horse named faith.   

Q3 What Sign will you do to Prove Yourself? 30-33

Jesus had just fed the 5,000! 

Compare that one meal to the 40 years of manna in the wilderness! 

What they wanted is for Jesus to feed them every day! 

Jesus used Bread as an illustration of spiritual truth.  

R: Give us this Bread 34-40

Jesus is the Bread of life that came down from heaven. 

Jesus is the only one who can bring spiritual satisfaction.

Their problem is that they did not believe!

If you come to Jesus on His terms, he will never turn you away. 

Once Jesus has you, he will never leave you.  39. 

Maybe you came to Jesus looking for a miracle of healing.  Maybe you came hoping God would supply your daily bread.  I’m not against those things.  I’m for them.  But check your motives.  What you really need to come to Jesus for is your daily bread and living water so that your soul will be satisfied in Him.  Only Jesus satisfies.  If you truly have Jesus, you will truly be satisfied!  Taste and see that the Lord is good!  Once you have tasted of this heavenly gift, you will want nothing else but to eat at His table.
